There are dozens of websites available for posting jobs but the market is still dominated by a few (Monster and CareerBuilder). Newspaper classified ads are not usually cost-effective. Trade publications provide a more targeted approach, but they’re dependent on publication dates.
Most posting sites charge according to the number of postings and run length (typically 30 days). Volume discounts are provided. Be sure to read about job descriptions and job postings before advertising for a position.
There are new technologies that have created fresh mechanisms for advertising positions:
- LinkedIn combines social networking with recruiting.
- Inovahire and HireVue provide a tool for scheduling and conducting interviews on-line.
- Craigslist and other sites offer free or very low cost alternatives.
