Hiring the right talent is probably the most important role of a boss. Hiring wrong wastes money (salary, training, recruiting time & fees, etc.) and can damage team dynamics and morale. If there is one critical piece of advice on recruiting, it is to take whatever time necessary to find the right candidate. The best bosses hire people who not only balance and complement the team’s skills, but can be viewed as good as or even better than the boss (“Hire someone better than you.”).
