Industry Knowledge

Industry knowledge is an understanding of other companies in your market, how your company compares with the competition, and the business trends.  A good boss has an understanding of her company’s industry, and is able to educate her subordinates.  The easiest way to gain industry knowledge is to participate in local associations and subscribe to newsletters and periodicals from different industry groups.  Ask your boss what associations she’s affiliated with.  The internet makes gathering this type of information very easy.  Social networking sites such as LinkedIn enable connections to myriad associations and industry groups.

  1. Business associations directories: @List.org, Weddle’s, Trade Association Directory.
