Compensation (for oneself)

Compensation is the main motivator for most workers, especially someone asked to manage others. As you increase responsibilities and span of control, the expectation is that the compensation does as well. There are several websites to check market salary levels, but be wary of the data provided as it is often over-stated, and is dependent on the data provided by volunteers. The best sources for salary comparisons are industry or professional salary surveys, especially ones the segment the data (geography, company size, etc.). Bear in mind that most people feel that their salary should be higher. Compensation is driven primarily by supply and demand. [See also Compensation – General]
